Denon PMA-900HNE Integrated Network Stereo Amplifier – 85W/Ch at 4Ω with HEOS Built-in & MM/MC Phono

The Denon PMA-900HNE is a high-performance 2-channel integrated network amplifier that combines traditional Denon stereo amplification with modern music streaming, high-resolution digital playback and dedicated MM/MC phono connectivity. It is designed as a versatile centrepiece for Hi-Fi systems using turntables, digital sources, televisions, network music services and conventional analog components.

The amplifier uses Denon’s Advanced High Current Single Push-Pull power amplifier circuit with a discrete Darlington transistor output structure. It delivers 50W + 50W into 8-ohm loudspeakers from 20Hz to 20kHz at 0.07% THD and 85W + 85W into 4 ohms at 1kHz with 0.7% THD. Overall amplifier frequency response extends from 5Hz to 100kHz, providing bandwidth suitable for high-resolution music reproduction.

For digital sources, the PMA-900HNE provides three optical and one coaxial digital input. These connections accept 2-channel Linear PCM signals up to 192kHz/24-bit, making them suitable for connecting televisions, CD transports, digital players and compatible streaming sources. A front/rear USB-A connection is also provided for playback from compatible USB storage devices.

HEOS Built-in transforms the PMA-900HNE into a complete network audio amplifier. Wi-Fi and wired Ethernet connectivity provide access to compatible online music services, internet radio, music stored on network servers and multi-room HEOS systems. Apple AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth provide additional wireless playback options from compatible smartphones, tablets and computers.

Vinyl playback is supported through an integrated phono equalizer compatible with both Moving Magnet and Moving Coil cartridges. The current Denon manual specifies MM input sensitivity at 2.5mV / 47k ohms and MC input sensitivity at 220µV / 100 ohms, allowing a wide variety of turntables and cartridges to be connected without requiring a separate phono preamplifier.

For systems focused on pure two-channel playback, Source Direct bypasses the Bass, Treble and Balance circuits for a more direct signal path. Denon also allows network, USB-A, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functions to be disabled when they are not required, reducing unnecessary digital activity during critical analog listening.

Dual Speaker A/B outputs support flexible loudspeaker configurations and compatible bi-wiring installations. A dedicated subwoofer pre-out allows the amplifier to be combined with a powered subwoofer for extended low-frequency performance, while the headphone output provides convenient private listening.
