Description
BenQ W5850 4K UHD Laser Home Cinema Projector
The BenQ W5850 is a premium 4K UHD laser home cinema projector developed for dedicated theatre rooms, large projection screens and professionally integrated AV installations. Combining a 2600 ANSI-lumen blue laser light source, 100% DCI-P3 cinematic colour, BenQ HDR-PRO processing and an extensively motorized optical system, the W5850 is engineered for high-fidelity movie reproduction on very large screens.
The DLP projection system delivers a 3840 × 2160 4K UHD image with approximately 8.3 million displayed pixels. Its laser illumination system produces 2600 ANSI lumens, while BenQ also specifies approximately 2100 ANSI lumens of output when reproducing the complete 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut. Light-source dimming contributes to a specified dynamic contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1.
BenQ CinematicColor technology enables complete 100% DCI-P3 and 100% Rec.709 colour-gamut coverage. Each W5850 is individually factory calibrated, with BenQ specifying out-of-box colour accuracy of Delta E below 2. ISFccc certification and ISF Day/Night picture modes provide additional calibration flexibility for professionally designed home cinema environments.
BenQ HDR-PRO technology combines multi-stage light control with Global Contrast Enhancer, Local Contrast Enhancer and Dynamic Black processing. Local Contrast Enhancer analyses more than 1,000 independent image regions per frame to optimise contrast and detail across dark, mid-tone and bright areas.
The W5850 supports HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG high-dynamic-range formats. HDR10+ dynamic metadata allows compatible material to optimise HDR presentation frame by frame, while Filmmaker Mode is available for viewers who prefer reproduction that preserves the original cinematic characteristics of the source.
CinemaMaster image processing provides extensive picture adjustment, including Color Enhancer, Flesh Tone, Pixel Enhancer 4K, Motion Enhancer 4K, Local Contrast Enhancer, Global Contrast Enhancer, Dynamic Tone Mapping and Dynamic Black. These tools provide detailed control over sharpness, motion, colour and contrast for demanding cinema installations.
A major strength of the W5850 is its optical installation flexibility. The lens provides a recommended throw-ratio range of 1.0–1.5 and a maximum range of 1.0–1.6, allowing substantially larger images from shorter distances than the long-throw W5800. BenQ states that a 180-inch image can be achieved from approximately 4 metres.
The optical system incorporates a 1.6x motorized zoom together with motorized two-dimensional lens shift. Vertical lens shift provides ±50% adjustment, while horizontal lens shift provides ±15%, allowing accurate alignment with large projection screens without depending entirely on digital keystone processing.
Additional geometry correction is provided through 2D keystone adjustment of up to ±35 degrees vertically and horizontally. The combination of motorized zoom, motorized lens shift and electronic geometry control makes the W5850 particularly suitable for custom ceiling-mounted and dedicated theatre installations.
Connectivity includes two HDMI inputs and HDMI eARC functionality. eARC supports multichannel audio return up to 7.1 channels and compatible Dolby Atmos pass-through to an external AV receiver, processor or soundbar. The W5850 does not contain a built-in speaker and is intended to be partnered with a dedicated home theatre audio system.
Two USB Type-A connections support media-reader and power functions. Professional installation connectivity also includes optical S/PDIF digital audio output, Ethernet LAN, RS-232 control and VESA 3D Sync output.
The solid-state laser illumination system eliminates conventional projector lamp replacement. BenQ’s current detailed specification rates the light source for up to 20,000 hours in Normal Mode and approximately 25,000 hours in Eco Mode. BenQ India provides a 3-year onsite projector warranty, while the laser light source is covered for 3 years or 15,000 operating hours, whichever occurs first.
