Bowers & Wilkins – Formation Bar Wireless Soundbar

The Bowers & Wilkins Formation Bar is a premium wireless soundbar designed to bring detailed, powerful audio to television, movies and music. Combining Bowers & Wilkins’ speaker engineering with its Formation wireless platform, the Formation Bar provides a discreet solution for high-quality home theatre and music playback.

The Formation Bar features nine dedicated drivers, comprising three 25 mm double-dome tweeters and six 65 mm woven glass-fibre cone bass/midrange drivers. A dedicated three-driver centre channel is incorporated into the design to provide focused and clearly defined dialogue, while the remaining drivers support the left and right channels.

Six channels of digital amplification provide 40 W per channel, giving the Formation Bar a total amplifier output of 240 W. Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and Dynamic EQ are used to optimize the performance of the integrated driver system.

With a specified frequency response of 40 Hz–28 kHz, Formation Bar is designed to reproduce both detailed high frequencies and substantial low-frequency information from a single soundbar enclosure. Dolby Digital decoding provides compatibility with supported home theatre content.

The Formation Bar also functions as a high-quality wireless music speaker. It supports 24-bit/96 kHz audio through compatible sources and provides Wi-Fi networking, Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Roon Ready functionality and Bluetooth with aptX HD, AAC and SBC codecs.

Formation Bar can also be integrated into a larger Formation home theatre system. Bowers & Wilkins supports pairing the Bar with Formation Flex rear speakers, while Formation Bass can be added to create a 5.1-channel surround configuration.

The slim 109 mm-high enclosure is designed for discreet placement with a television, while its network connectivity allows it to operate as part of a multi-room Formation audio system.

Note: Formation Bar is an internally amplified wireless soundbar, so conventional passive-speaker specifications such as nominal impedance, sensitivity, continuous/RMS power handling and recommended external amplifier power are not applicable. Bowers & Wilkins specifies the amplifier output as 6 × 40 W, equivalent to 240 W total.
