Denon PMA-1700NE Integrated Stereo Amplifier
The Denon PMA-1700NE is a premium 2-channel integrated stereo amplifier designed for high-performance Hi-Fi systems. Combining Denon’s high-current analog amplification with high-resolution digital processing, USB-DAC functionality and an MM/MC phono stage, it provides a versatile foundation for both traditional analog and modern digital music systems.
The power amplifier section uses Denon’s New UHC-MOS Single Push-Pull circuit together with a Variable Gain Preamplifier architecture. The PMA-1700NE delivers 70W + 70W into 8-ohm loads from 20Hz to 20kHz with 0.07% THD, while output rises to 140W + 140W into 4 ohms at 1kHz with 0.7% THD. Its wide 5Hz–100kHz frequency response is designed to accommodate high-resolution audio sources and a broad range of loudspeaker designs.
For digital playback, the amplifier incorporates a PCM1795 digital-to-analog converter together with Denon’s Advanced AL32 Processing Plus. Its asynchronous USB-B interface supports Linear PCM audio up to 384kHz/32-bit and DSD signals up to 11.2MHz. Full electrical isolation is employed on the USB-B interface to help prevent unwanted high-frequency noise from a connected computer entering the amplifier’s audio circuitry.
The PMA-1700NE also provides two optical digital inputs and one coaxial digital input, each supporting Linear PCM signals up to 192kHz/24-bit. Denon’s DAC Master Clock Design uses the DAC’s master clock as the reference for digital audio processing to help reduce timing errors during digital-to-analog conversion.
Vinyl listeners can connect a turntable directly through the integrated phono equalizer, which supports both Moving Magnet (MM) and Moving Coil (MC) cartridges. The MM input is specified at 2.5mV / 47k ohms, while the MC input is specified at 200µV / 100 ohms, making the amplifier suitable for a wide variety of turntable and cartridge combinations.
For analog listening, Source Direct bypasses the tone-control circuitry, while Analog Mode switches off sections of the digital circuitry when digital sources are not required. Bass, Treble and Balance adjustments remain available for systems where tonal correction is preferred.
Two sets of gold-plated speaker terminals provide Speaker A/B operation and support compatible bi-wiring configurations. Additional connectivity includes four analog RCA inputs including phono, a recording output, EXT.PRE power-amplifier input, headphone output and remote-control bus connection.
